Is It Bad to Smoke Marijuana Every Single Day?

Weed, also known as marijuana, is collected from the seeds, stems, flowers and dried leaves of the plant called Cannabis sativa. This plant contains delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (TCH) which is a mind-altering chemical. According to SAMHSA, 2014, the most frequently used illicit drug in America is marijuana. It’s very popular between young adults. The yearly survey results for students of middle and high school revealed that the use of marijuana has stabilized after many years of excessive use. Nonetheless young people don’t regard marijuana as a risky drug and often choose smoking weed everyday.

Occasional use of pot isn’t really harmful however it affects the mind and body as it gets inside the system.

Regardless the route, it produces its effect on every body organ including the nervous system and the immune system. When smoked, TCH present in pot is absorbed immediately. Smoking weed elevates the heart rate up to 2 times for almost 3 hours and because of this some people get a cardiac arrest right after using pot. Aside from its effect on heart it can also cause prolong bleeding, hypotension and alter the blood sugar levels. It’s not known for sure if marijuana has any association with lung cancer however it causes irritation to the lungs. Therefore smoking weed everydaycan lead to persistent cough and some lungs related health issues like lung infections and chest colds. Marijuana also produces the following physical effects:

  • Dizziness
  • Dry mouth
  • Dilated pupils, red eyes
  • Shallow breathing
  • Increased appetite

Driving after smoking weed may double your risk of a car accident. Using it for a prolonged time period can bring about withdrawal symptoms when you quit such as decreased appetite, sleeplessness, irritability and cravings.

In men it tends to lower the levels of testosterone when consumed heavily and leads to declined sperm quality and count. As a result you may suffer from fertility and libido related issues.

Can Marijuana Cause Addiction?

Weed can be addictive. The number multiplies in case of teens who start using it at an early age.

Study on Marijuana:

The findings of a brain scan study suggested that marijuana causes very harmful long-term neurological effects. After 20 years of detailed research on cannabis it was found by a professor of King’s College London that it may cause addiction in 1 out of 6 teenagers and 1 out of 10 adults. The study also found that it is highly addictive and can serve as a doorway to other hard drugs. According to Professor Hall, a WHO drug advisor, smoking marijuana during pregnancy can decrease the weight of baby at birth. Teenagers using cannabis are at doubled risk developing disorders like schizophrenia. There is more structural damage when marijuana is used at a younger age, however this requires more research.

Brain scans showed that chronic use of marijuana, smoking it 3 times a day on average, decreases the grey matter volume in orbitofrontal cortex, the part involved in decision making and mental processing, if damaged it can underpin psychopathy and personality disorders. Marijuana users also showed increased white matter which may be due to compensation for declined grey matter volume.

Smoking Weed Every Day: Others' Experience and Advice

“Everything must be exercised in a certain balance as too much of anything can make you sick, let it be weed, booze, food or even water. I have been a regular weed smoker for the past 30 years and I have had no issues with the lungs or heart, I have properly functioning legs and arms and I’m still in a better shape than people who are my age i.e. 50. But I didn’t just sit around and smoked weed or else I would have collapsed. I smoke once in a while like a couple of good hits then I enjoy the nature and go out, play guitar or paint a picture. It works well for me during the evening and day, but I avoid it at night because I find it to be wastage of weed, utterly boring. This kind of thing is for basement dwellers. If you are doing the same then you need to give your life a deep thought and consider it all over again to know what you really want from it. Remember, life is just too short to stay high every time.”

“Before using it, you must know how smoking weed everyday may affect you. Always know your limits. Avoid using cannabis when it makes you distracted and worn off and you need to be focused and alert. Avoid using it prior to school or work unless you are taking it for a valid medicinal reason.  Avoid driving vehicles when you have been using it lately. “

How Is Weed Used?

It is smoked using the hand-rolled cigarettes, also known as joints, or through pipes or bong, also known as water pipes. People also smoke marijuana using in-blunts, partially or completely emptied cigars refilled with pot. Vaporizers are also commonly used for marijuana in order to avoid smoke, as they collect active ingredients of marijuana, including TCH, and vaporize them in a storage unit. Therefore the user inhales the vapours and not the smoke itself. Marijuana can also be used by adding it in food like candy, cookies and brownies and may as well be brewed as a tea. People are switching to the new marijuana consuming technique that is eating or smoking different forms of resins rich in TCH.
